The Saskatchewan Roughriders have won their first division title in 33 years. Chris Getzlaf, Rob Bagg and Chris Szarka scored Rider touchdowns in a 30-14 win over the visiting Calgary Stampeders.
Saskatchewan earns a bye into the West final, while Calgary hosts Edmonton next weekend.

33 Years with the Nail being put in the coffin by Number 33!!! Good Job Riders, See you in 2 weeks when we see CALGARY AGAIN FOR A TRIP TO THE GREY CUP!!!
Hot damn yee ha!
Just got my tix....
And a win in the west final on my birthday would be the best b-day gift ever from this team!! GOOOOO RIDERS!!!!
Canukleheads
Wow! Riders are blessed to have a tough young quarterback in Darian Durant who started in all 18 games and lead the team to first place. Whether we win the Grey Cup in 09 or not, the years ahead looks very bright as the Riders will continue to build winning teams around a solid team leader and quality person in Darian Durant.
Keith
Exciting win, congrats Riders! #33 drives the nail in and gets us first place secured first time in 33 years! It is finally cool to look at the final CFL standings... we're first baby!
But I am still worried...
Our running game needs to be established, pronto!!!, we used to be good at run, what happened here?
Chris Szarka was under utilized the whole game until the end.
Clermont is not being used again. What happened to Quinn?
If November 22 is cold weather, then it will be ground game. We better play hard and spread the ball out. I have a feeling we'll face the Eskimos.
Grey Cup in Calgary will be great for us as it will be a home crowd, hope Montreal will be upset in the East Final. They are tough to beat.
Last, this one week bye will extremely benefit Riders, as players will rest and recover fully from the flu. Other teams will catch the flu in the semis. This is not a good flu season.
Go Riders Go!
RDS
If we could only stop the run****
They would not have had anything.
WOW!! Great effort by all!!! And yes, instead of up the middle up the middle, can we run some sweeps or something to the outside, so we can actually use Cates' speed!? 2 out of 3 so far, go pats!
Can we leave the nitpicking for another day?
They won. They finished first. That doesn't happen much around here. Let's enjoy it.
DST
See you in two weeks Roddy. WOOP!
Huge win!
I love the props the players give the fans ... and the fans respong by chanting MVP when Durant comes over to the East side.
Far from a perfect game, but who cares, we have two weeks to get things worked out!
Attaboy Green!
Cates is best suited for up the middle runs as he's not the fastest back. He's blocking was fantastic tonight and DD led his troops fantastcly. Rest up green and see you on the 22nd!
"Can we leave the nitpicking for another day?"
lol... this is Saskatchewan, after all! When the rain finally does come- it's usually too much for someone and when the heat comes, it's generally to hot or too late, and when the Riders win, it wasn't the best win- we got fortunate...
That's just us!!
MCD
Great game, Riders! Well done, organization!
Ready for two guranteed "up" weeks, Rod! It'll be a nice change!!!
Cates has been consistently getting 4-5 hard yards up the middle, but I am not sure he has that next gear anymore!
Esks and Stamps can club each other up next week and we'll pick over the scraps!!
Go Riders!!
CJ
i think i like this finishing first thing!
The fans get 2 weeks to recover and recharge for the west final!
Miller for Coach of the Year.
I got my tix too! I've been to all of the Western Finals here in Vancouver, and have waited patiently for the day when we'd get to host it. There was no way that I was going to pass on this opportunity. It'll be a couple of crazy days, flying to Regina and back...but it's gonna be worth it. I'll have to repeat it the following week in Calgary!
OK....enjoying time is done, time for planning.
The reason that the Riders haven't won the West in 33 years is because they know there are absolutely no hotel rooms available in our city in late November, because of the Western Canadian Agribition. All these years, we have been considerate of the visiting CFL teams travel plans, and must have offered to play the game somewhere else.
Herein lies two dilemnas:
1. We might need some Regina residents to "billet" the visiting Western Finalists....LOL;
2. How the hell are we going to fly Roddy back from the Pats west coast trip where they play in Kootenay, Tri Cities on Fri/Sat, Nov 20/21?
Darian has earned the west nominee as MOP. Please use your vote, Rod!!
Yes, it is time for the detractors to acknowledge Coach Miller as legit. Too many people said the 6-0 start was all Kent Austin. Well, Miller has led us to the west final...give Coach his due.
Great jod riders!!! I loved the play calling we tried to spread the ball at the right times and we weren't as conservative as we tend to be at times with our offence! Will Eddie Davis be back for the Final? Get postgame show Roddy and a HUGE congrats to you and Carm for all your excellent coverage. A nd for those who don't appreciate all the work you do with your blog and ongoing coverage of the Pats and Riders and not to mention the rest of the sporting news they can go F*** themselves!!
And he smiled when he got the water cooler! LOL
Miller has done a great job, at times it may not have seemed so, but in the end is all that matters! That's why I never got when people tear him apart (as well as the whole team) all season long, and now everyone is happy!
Guess you detractors didn't have to be negative all season long hey!? (especially of Durant!)
I'm glad to say I have been a supporter of DD since day one.
It's not being nitpicky either, it's called discussing! Can anyone really wait for two weeks! The talk alone will kill everyone! haha
Congrats DD!
I dont think CKRM will have a problem footing the bill to have Rod fly back from the Pats road trip, or they will send the other guy who does the games (sorry i dont know his name)...
Nope, when a bunch of clowns who wouldn't know a horse collar from a regular tackle start poking holes in a WIN, that's nit-picking.
And it's kind of comical, in a sad sort of way.
For all the Durrant/Miller bashers.
As the lawyer said,
"I rest my case."
So do you know the definition of a horse collar tackle! Look it up...then shut up.
Here...did it for ya.
The ban states that a horse-collar tackle is an open-field tackle in which a defender uses the shoulder pads or jersey to immediately bring a ball carrier down. The term "open field" means that horse-collar tackles committed near the line of scrimmage will be allowed; in addition, the stipulation of "immediately bringing the ball carrier down" means that, if a defender begins to bring a player down by the shoulder pads but lets go before the tackle is completed, he will not be penalized.
Yes anonymous, it's not just the shoulder pads, it's the jersey included. Guess you didn't know that hey!?
The refs were horrible (both ways mind you - as we had some blatant holding calls not called) and they need to get better before the playoffs!!
Here ended the lesson.
Great game Riders. Congratulations to the entire organization.
It is hard to believe that when I became a season ticket holder in 1977 that I/We would not see the Riders host a Western Final until 2009.
Last night we could sense there is no quit in this team. I hope that some of the negitive people see this and embrace it for what it is the first step in getting to the Grey Cup.
There is more work to do and I have the faith the Riders have the players and coaches to do it.
GO RIDERS.
JC
Great Rider Win!!
Lots of heros from a game like that!
One key contributor who seems to have been forgotten is Eric Tillman. Since he arrived he has established a new vision, attitude and value system for this team. Leadership starts at the top. Eric has provided that!!
Bill
I agree with the much needed props for ET. His vision has led us to this point. Everything he did after Austin and Joseph left has been second-guessed, but look where we are.
He also found Sakoda, right? He has proved invaluable with Boreham out. In Eric we still trust!
Agreed. Sakoda is a great find. What a leg on that guy.
Yeah, everybody forgets that ET is still working, and it's too bad he can't be on the sidelines to savour this!
Good call on bringing him up, Bill!
Jason Clairmont brings intangibles: 2 examples are when he went after the punter Dales and rammed him into the cameraman. second was when the stamps were huddled up for the second kickoff (after the penalized short kick). He ran over there and went into the huddle!! I couldn't believe it. They didn't even notice him. JC then signaled to Armstead they were kicking deep and sure enough they did. RODDIE YOU HAVE TO ASK HIM ABOUT THAT!!!!It was awsome
What a cagey vetern!!!!!!
I agree as well Ceasar. Dodge and Bill.
Eric Tillman has brought a new dimension to the organization. It's called winning, Wherever he goes he wins. Joe Womac the lead scout and conditioning coach, This guy has a serious ability to recognize talent in players suited for the Canadian game. These 2 gentleman have done a tremendous job. I really feel for Eric having to watch the team succeed from his home. He is a PR guy through and through. GO RIDERS GO.
BIG B
It was a great game and an awesome win! Now, all I want for Christmas is a Grey Cup win and an Andre Proulx booblehead.
