Durant Update

You be the judge of what Darian Durant's comments after Thursday's Rider practice mean. At least he was back out throwing for the first time since knocking his right thumb off a teammate's helmet on Tuesday....

DURANT: Right now, it's got a long way to go. But it's better than it was yesterday and that's the main thing. As long as it keeps progressing by (Saturday's game in Toronto), everything should be fine.

REPORTER: That doesn't sound too positive??

DURANT: Not much doubt. At the end of the day, I'm still going to play. The better it feels, the better the ball feels in my hand. We're going to go aggressive on this thing and hopefully we'll get it as close to 100% as possible.

----

Today was the Riders' last practice of the week before Saturday's game at Toronto (11:00am kickoff Saskatchewan time on TSN and CKRM Rider Radio Network).

Talk to you from Toronto!

Probably figures if he doesn't start he could possibly lose the starting job......

He wasn't great last game but I say let him in there for 4 games and evaluate his performance after that.

Durant fumbled the ball and threw 3 INT's with a good hand. What is he going to do with a bad hand!?

You can all settle down, as in zip it! If you took every quarterback out of the game that was being developed you wouldn't have heard of people like Kent Austin and the list goes on. Give him some time to learn from his mistakes. Jyles and Bell are your alternatives, ummmm yah not good.

Have a great flight we look forward to your reports and if we could be so lucky maybe the some pics of The Fantuz crew (if you can find them)

They won the game so what does it matter what he did? There's two theories I have when it comes to QB's. Theory 1 is sometimes in a blue moon you'll find one that will outright win you games ala Ray and Calvillo. Then there is Theory 2 which pertains to every mortal playing the position. Just don't do anything to lose the game. He's developing and he has actually never lost a game as a Starting QB. Good enough for me.

We have a stellar Defence which quite frankly is the reason this team has been winning for the past couple seasons. We also have in my opinion the best Special Teams. We have a team that where 2/3'rds of the game is concerned is the best in the league. I like their chances just fine this weekend.

While I totally agree with your comments on the defence, I think it might be a tad early to conclude that we have the best special teams in the league.

I guess we'll see what he can do Chris, I guess we'll see.

I agree. Give the guy some slack as he is 5-0 as the starter and our best option to win (in my opinion).

He did make mistakes in the last game, but did enough to manage the game and win. He'll learn from those mistakes which will make him grow. Thats all we can ask for at this point.

We would need to stop allowing punt blocks to have the best special teams.

The only way the Durant hate will stop is until he loses his job to Jyles. Once he gets in, the DD love in will continue. It is really embarassing.

You know the other team is getting paid to make plays too. That means DB's are going to step in front of the Receiver and intercept, guys will break through a line and block a punt, and yes our QB will be sacked. Concentrate on the end result which is to build towards a championship. If this team can win ugly or however it does then it can get a home playoff game. From there it is 50/50 what happens.

I completely agree with the wise Caesar...chillax.

I like our attitude towards QB's:
Everytime they make a mistake or have an average game it's time to bench or get rid of them. When they do eventually leave then we complain as we watch them excel for other teams "Why didn't we hold on to ______??" Burris and Glenn are good examples.

Hopefully we have some patience with Darian.

How's Craven lookin?? Is Taylor Swift heartbroken that she won't get 5 minutes with Pedersen?? Are you going to be back in time to see George Strait Sunday?? Are you going to sneak onto his bus and wear one of his hats!!!

We're on the Rock Star bus to Craven. We're not discussing it on the blog.

Why am I thinking Sunday is one of those days that would be perfect for the RP reality show????

Hard to tell if the Riders won their last game. To a few people give your head a shake, quarterbacks aren't developed overnight. Look at Burris he still throws interception after interception.

If a blogger has an opinion on here that doesn't quite agree with you "rose coloured" glasses Rider fanatics he shouldn't have to be subjected to scorn and ridicule should he?? I would think that Rod is looking for comments and opinions of all kinds as long as they don't get personal.
On one hand I concur with those of you that think 5-0 is perfect and that's all that matters but on the other hand don't forget the role that the D and Special teams played in those victories.
Could we all just agree that Durant has been very inconsistent, no matter what the record, and will have to be a helluva lot more consistent for this team to compete game after game. I see a QB that shows too much emotion after a play instead of composing himself to prepare for the next one or two plays. Quarterbacking is a chess match. You have to think ahead and set things up for something that may not be used until the fourth quarter. So far, I haven't seen that and after his being on the sidelines and on the field here for as many years as he has that concerns me. He nees to calm down and show more leadership in that area. However, on the positive side it appears that every game he is in we have a chance to win and that's all that matters to me.

Why did the Riders not leave today for Toronto? Argos will have the upper hand, as Riders won't be adjusted to the time change.

I disagree with u Clarkenstein. I think Durant has shown he is very even keel and I like the fact that he is confident in his ability to go out and make a play, even after making a mistake. which is gonna happen. Every qb is gonna make a mistake, we should show some patience. I like this guys mentality I think he is a leader.

The time change is an excuse. It's only a distraction if you make it one. More pics from Toronto Rod!

darian...it's a bruised hand. freeze it and play or step aside and let someone else lead the team.
